The Future of Shin Gi Tai: Our 2026 Goals & Updates

Shin Gi Tai has grown into an incredible community over the last few years. As we look toward 2026, Srdjan and I have been thinking about how we can make the club even better and, more importantly, ensure it's here for the long haul.

Our big focus for the coming year is Sustainability and Excellence. Our 2026 Goals To reach the next level as a club, we've set three main priorities:

  1. Supporting our Coaches: Our coaching team (Paily, Sam, Junior, Dan, Alvin, and Meg) give so much heart and time to every session. We want to move away from a volunteer-only model and start paying them for their expertise.
  2. Standing on our own feet: For the past four years, the Cade family has been subsidising the rent for our building. Our goal for 2026 is for the club to finally cover its own operational costs.
  3. Structured Judo: We are refining our program to offer a more organized, high-quality experience for every student, from our youngest U9s to our senior ranks.

2026 Pricing Updates

To help us meet these goals, we are updating our pricing structure starting Monday, January 19th, 2026.

  • Juniors (U15): $350 per term (aligned with Education QLD school terms).
  • Seniors: $35 per week.
  • New Member Sign-up: $120 (includes a brand-new Judo Gi).
  • Family Discount: We continue to offer 10% off for additional family members.

Note for existing members: You will stay on your current rate until your existing payment schedule expires. At that point, you'll have the option to migrate over to the new 2026 structure.

A More Structured Timetable

We've tweaked our weekly schedule to ensure everyone gets the specific training they need:

  • Monday & Wednesday: Fundamentals (The core of our Judo, open to everyone).
  • Tuesday & Thursday: Tactical Judo (Advanced focus and strategy).
  • Wednesday Night Special: We'll run Kata on Mat 1 while Fundamentals continues on Mat 2.
  • Friday Fun & Competition: Judo games for our U9s, and high-intensity Competition/Randori for U15s and Seniors.

Looking Ahead

We are also excited to announce that we're designing a new Referral Program to reward members who help grow our community. Stay tuned for more details on that in Term 2!

A Final Note: The strength of Shin Gi Tai is its people. If you are ever experiencing financial difficulties, please don't hesitate to come and have a private chat with Srdjan or myself so we can find a way to support you.

We are so proud of this club and can't wait to see what we achieve together in 2026.

See you on the mat!

Jeremy

2025 Dojo Move, New Membership System & Pricing Updates

Dojo Move / Expansion

Shin Gi Tai will be relocating our club from our current dojo in Unit 2, to Unit 1 65 Boyland Ave at the end of January 2025. This move has some significant benefits; including an expanded tatami area (approximately 170 m2 vs the 132m2 that we have now) and air conditioning.

We hope to have the move concluded before the start of our full 2025 Class Schedule on January 27th 2025.

Updated Membership System and Updated Pricing

Over the coming weeks we will be migrating all of our membership records to a new management system: Gymdesk. This will also include a new pricing schedule for 2025.

We will be offering monthly, quarterly and yearly payment options; Along with a ‘casual visit’ price of $20 per session for members of other Judo Australia / Judo Queensland Clubs.

Unfortunately our pricing will no longer be inclusive of Judo Australia and Judo Queensland Membership.

For those of us with bigger families; there will be a sliding discount applied to each membership.

Shin Gi Tai Coaches Abroad

Over the past two months, you would have noticed coaches missing from club training. This is is because we too enjoy competing and never stop learning and contributing to judo!

We are very pleased to share what we have been up to in announcing our Head Club Coach, Srdjan Sensei successfully passed his IJF A Referee Examination held recently in Dakar, Senegal! An incredible achievement, showing Srdjan Sensei’s commitment to officiating in our sport, obtaining refereeing’s highest qualification. We can’t overstate how big an achievement this is. Congratulations Srdj Sensei!

Competing in NZ’s national competition our Riley Phouphayly podiumed in his age and weight category in shiai, Paily Sensei & Sam Sensei became 3x

Goshin Jutsu no Kata champs, and Paily Sensei picked up a second gold as 2x Ju no Kata champion with his other kata partner Neisha Brooking Sensei. Sam refereed there as well.

And lastly International Honours with Jeremy Sensei competing at his first World Veterans Comp for Australia, coupled with managing the team and coaching support. Paily Sensei & Sam Sensei were NZ’s first ever Kata representatives, competing in their signature Goshin Jutsu no Kata. No bling for us this time, but some phenomenal experience taken! Sam refereed there as well.

Lastly, we would like to thank the club, our coaches, our supporters, our national federations, and our families for being there with us, cheering us on, supporting us and allowing us to do what we love in our sport of judo. We can’t do judo alone and we’re forever grateful.
